Shirley’s daughter had been searching for a place for her mom to live so that she would quit working and enjoy life.  When they toured CityView, they knew it they’d hit the jackpot.  It was well-maintained, with so many more amenities and friendly people.

“I’ve done more since I moved here than I have in the last 20 years” exclaimed Shirley.  “You really never have to leave.  We’ve got it all right here.”

No sooner were the boxes unpacked then Shirley went to work making new friends, first as a greeter in the dining room and volunteer in the video room, then as a part-time receptionist.  When the Resident’s Activities Association needed a treasurer, she put her 25 years of banking experience to work.  Under Shirley’s management the small gift shop operated by and for the residents was transformed from primarily a thrift shop to a hub of activity and commerce.  “What keeps us growing is catering to the needs of the residents and the satisfaction of seeing people pleased. “  Pleased indeed, as hostess of the Tuesday night BINGO she’s notorious for her delicious home baked treats.

To celebrate Older American’s month residents were asked to nominate someone who best exemplified the theme “Unleashing the Power of Age.”   With her community spirit and can do attitude, it’s no wonder Shirley came in 1st place.
